Dimitris Lamprou – Story As A Dream, Independent Curatorial by Petros Kosmas
‘’Because the boundaries of the dream are fluid, the boundaries of the real become also fluid as real is viewed from the perspective of the dream’’.
The title of the exhibition is derived from everything that divides and unites social conventions. This happens also within a family, community, class or race. We may observe such contradictions mostly in the area of Kerameikos – Metaxourgeio, more than anywhere else in the city center. That is to say, behind the dusk or before dawn. Nicholas Kalas in the poem refers to as “The after yesterday and the before tomorrow.” There is the dividing line which constantly shifts the boundaries of consciousness and unconscious aspects. Therefore, the past encroaches on the present and produces future.
Central work of the exhibition is the pyramid. That specific installation according to the artist denotes the classifying-shaped human culture, based on the economy and its laws. The frame of the construction intertwines the indissoluble society which supports the overthrow of the peak. Since that refutation, a matrix is emerged, in order to give birth in something new, producing tears which cover the gasping of a dying world:
«It is terrible to be afraid that something will not happen while we also fear when it is about to come. There is no birth without pain. We should never forget the fact that each new delivery can kill the mother. Let’s not regret about what we are forced to abandon. Let’s change the past and transform the future, let’s fill both with the new hopes of our desires».
Lamprou’s artistic practice pursues to be described as multilevel and chaotic. His work, specifically plans and blueprints are based on a doric architecture style and harmony, on the contrary of the sociopolitical upset. The concepts of science such as mathematics, architecture, philosophy, poetry coexist and employ his work. He does not refer to specific events or places. His artistic outcome is resulting from random, moving between the reality and the vision. He uses various techniques such as drawing, painting, photography, installation and video installation.
Dimitris Lambrou was born in 1980, lives and works in Athens. He graduated from school of Fine Arts and he has held a number of solo and group exhibitions.
The exhibition is curated by art historian Petros Kosmas, graduate Archaeology and history of art at the University of Athens and partner of the Deste Foundation, the slaughterhouse, in Hydra.
